# Getting Pro Free

Three ways to get Pro without paying — invite friends, keep a streak, or use a gift code — and what happens when free Pro ends.

LangX is free to use, and Pro is one optional subscription. You can also get Pro without paying.

## Invite friends

Share your invite link from the app. **Each friend** who joins with it and has a real conversation with someone other than you gets **1 week of Pro** — and so do you.

You can earn up to **12 weeks a year** this way, counted per calendar year; your friend's week doesn't count towards yours. Pro you already got under the old rule (a month for every 3 friends) is yours to keep. Each invite also earns you tokens — see [Inviting someone](/docs/token/distibution.md#inviting-someone).

A friend counts once they have had a real conversation — both sides writing — with somebody other than you, not when they sign up. A reward for creating an account would be a reward for creating accounts.

## Keep a streak

| Streak   | Pro      |
| -------- | -------- |
| 7 days   | 1 week   |
| 100 days | 1 month  |
| 365 days | 3 months |

Each one is given **once**, so a year-long streak adds up to 4 months and a week. If your streak was already past 7, 100 or 365 days when this started, you still get it — the next time you practise. How streaks work is on [Day Streaks](/docs/library/day-streaks.md).

A [streak freeze](/docs/token/utility.md) bought with tokens keeps your streak going, and a kept streak counts toward these rewards. Tokens never buy Pro directly.

## Use a gift code

Open the plans screen in the app and tap **Have a gift code?** under the button. Type the code and Pro starts right away, for as many months as the code gives.

* Capitals don't matter.
* Each code works **once per person**.
* A code can have a limited number of uses and an end date, and can be switched off by us.
* Too many wrong tries in a row and the app asks you to wait before trying again.

## Gifts from us

Now and then the LangX team gives someone Pro as a thank-you. It arrives as a message from **@langx** in your chats.

## When free Pro ends

Pro from an invite, a streak, a gift code or a gift from us:

* **never renews** and **never charges you**;
* is announced a week before it ends, and again the day before;
* ends with a short thank-you from **@langx**, and you are back on Free.

Languages you add while you have free Pro pause in Discover when it ends. They stop being used for matching, but they stay on your profile.

If you get free Pro twice, the second period starts where the first one ends. If you want to keep Pro after that, subscribe from the plans screen.

A few things to know:

* Free Pro can't be added to an account that already has lifetime Pro.
* If you already pay for Pro, a streak or invite reward is skipped when your subscription runs past the reward's end date — there's nothing for it to add. That milestone or those invites still count as rewarded.
* Free Pro doesn't pause a paid subscription. If you pay as well, the subscription is billed as usual, and if you cancel it, free Pro carries on until its own end date.
