📊How Tokens Are Earned
How LangX Tokens are earned — the direct awards, the daily caps that keep them honest, and the shared daily pool.
Tokens come from two places: direct awards, paid the moment you do something, and a daily pool that is shared out at the end of the day among everyone who was active.
Direct awards
Send a message
1
Write a correction on someone's sentence
10
Answer a pronunciation request with a recording
10
Get a conversation going — the first time you and a partner have both spoken
15
Finish a review in Echo (ten cards)
5
A correction is worth ten messages, and that ratio is not an accident. Teaching someone is the behaviour the platform exists for, so it is the behaviour worth paying for. Corrections have no daily cap on either the free or the Pro tier.
Recording how a word is said pays the same, for the same reason: it is the same act in a different medium. You can answer each request once, and a second, slower take on the same answer is welcome but does not pay again.
A review in Echo — ten of the cards made from sentences in your own chats — pays 5. Reviewing is worth paying for, and it is the one kind of practice that does not need somebody else to be awake, but it is done alone, so it sits below the two acts that need another person. Five reviews a day pay, counted on your own local day, so Echo is worth up to 25 tokens a day. It does not count toward the daily pool, which scores what you do with other people.
Every new account also starts with 250 tokens — the price of a streak freeze plus change, so the first thing worth owning is already within reach.
Caps on message tokens
Messages that pay, per day
200 (up to 200 tokens)
Messages that pay, from one partner
60 (up to 60 tokens)
Echo reviews that pay, per day
5 (up to 25 tokens)
The per-partner cap is what stops two accounts from farming each other, and the daily cap is what stops volume from beating quality. Anything past the cap still helps the person you are talking to; it just does not pay again.
Both caps reset at 00:00 UTC, the same clock the pool and the leaderboards use. Your streak is the one thing measured in your own local day.
The daily pool
Every day, 5,000 tokens are shared out among the members who were active that day, in proportion to how active they were. Nobody's share is fixed — yours depends on everyone else's day as well as your own, which is what keeps it worth watching.
Your activity score for the day:
Conversations
New conversations where both sides spoke for the first time today
Corrections
Corrections you wrote today
Messages
Messages you sent today, counted up to 50
Partners
Distinct people you talked to today
Talking to four different people is worth more than sending four times as many messages to one, which is the behaviour the pool is trying to buy.
Your share:
capped at 5% of the pool (250 tokens), no matter how quiet the day was.
Worked example
You send 30 messages to 4 different people, write 3 corrections, and one new conversation gets going both ways:
If everyone's scores add up to 3,000 that day, your share is tokens — on top of the 1 × 30 + 10 × 3 + 15 = 75 tokens you were already paid directly.
Three rules
Accounts younger than 24 hours earn no pool share. A pool that paid out to hour-old accounts would be a throwaway-account generator.
A quiet day distributes nothing rather than dividing a fixed pot among three people.
The share is paid at 04:00 UTC the morning after the day it rewards, and is not shown to you before then — see Daily tokens.
Streak bonuses
Keeping a daily streak pays a bonus when you reach a milestone:
7 days
50
30 days
250
100 days
1,000
180 days
1,500
365 days
5,000
730 days
12,000
1,095 days
25,000
Opening the app is enough to keep a streak going. These bonuses, though, are paid for a day you did something meaningful — send a message, write a correction, or answer a pronunciation request. If a check-in carries you across a milestone in the morning, the first real thing you do that day pays it. See Day Streaks.
Inviting someone
Your invite code is your username. When somebody signs up with it:
They write their first message or correction
1,000
750
They ever start a paid plan (once, never on a renewal)
4,000
—
That is at most 5,000 tokens per person you invite, and an invited newcomer starts on 1,000 — the 750 plus the 250 every account starts with.
Nothing is paid for signing up. The award waits until the person you invited has actually written to somebody, because a reward for creating an account is a reward for creating accounts. And the plan bonus does not make tokens buyable: the person who pays gets nothing for paying, and money never buys tokens for whoever spent it.
Invites also earn Pro: every 3 people you invite who start talking give you a month of it, up to 3 months a year. See Getting Pro Free.
The hourly gift
The wallet's store holds one free gift an hour. Open it and it pays a random number of tokens, from nothing up to 250 — but the shape is deliberately lopsided: about a third of gifts are empty, nine in ten hold 30 or fewer, and the top of the range comes up about once in a thousand. On average a gift is worth about 11 tokens.

The gift is decided on the server, not on your phone, and the hour is counted from the last one you opened. Gift tokens go to your all-time balance only: they never count toward the weekly, monthly or yearly tables, which rank what you did, not what you were given. Nothing is bought, staked or redeemable — it is a free gift, not a game of chance.
Why these numbers are public
Every rate, cap and weight on this page is in the app's source, in the open, in packages/shared. That is fine: none of it is enforced by being secret. Awards are written server-side, once, against a unique ledger entry per event — so an award cannot be paid twice, whatever the client says.
These are also starting values. The right pool size and weights can only really be found with real activity, so expect them to be tuned. The ledger they are written to is append-only, which means a change can always be applied without rewriting anyone's history.
