# Notifications

What LangX sends you, when it sends it, and how to turn any of it off — per kind and per channel.

LangX notifies you about five things, and each of them has two switches: one for your phone, one for your email. Nothing is all-or-nothing, and none of it is hidden behind a single master toggle.

Find them in **Settings → Notifications**.

## The five kinds

## What the app does while you have it open

Your phone does not buzz for a message that arrives while you are using LangX. A small banner appears at the top instead, with the sender's name and a line of their message — tap it to open the conversation, or ignore it and it goes away.

If you are already reading that conversation, nothing appears at all. The message is simply there, and it counts as read.

This is the same switch as **Messages → Push**. Turning that off silences the in-app banner too, though the chat list still shows everything with its unread count.

## What we never put in an email

**Not a word of anybody's message.** An unread-message email tells you how many are waiting and who wrote them, and stops there. Email is not a private place — it goes through a mail provider, it sits on a server, and it is often read on a screen somebody else can see.

## Profile visits: the number and the names

The **number** of people who looked at your profile is free, and that is what the notification tells you. **Who they were** is part of Polyglot, and you will find them on the Visitors screen — the weekly email names them only if your plan includes them.

## Turning email off

Every notification email has a link in its footer that switches that kind off for good. It works whether or not you can still sign in, and it never expires — a link in a two-year-old email still works today.

It only affects **email**. Your phone notifications stay exactly as they were, because turning off email says nothing about them. To change those, or to turn the mail back on later, use Settings → Notifications in the app.

Your email address has to be verified before the email switches do anything. Until then they are greyed out, because a switch that cannot send anything is worse than no switch at all.

## News and offers

Off for everybody, on both channels, until you turn them on. We do not treat signing up as agreement to be marketed at, and we never will.
